"4K2PGO" colorful Heyss Island (Остров Хейса, in Franz Joseph Land) QSL card from the USSR Geophysical Observatory there, used July 1991, excellent condition. We have also seen this island spelled Heiss when referring to the Krenkel hydrometeorological station there. Shown. $5.00 amr. Same but used August 1991, excellent condition. $5.00 amr
"99 - VIERVILLE-sur-MER (Calvados) / Lorsque le vent favorise les fortes marées, les vagues envahissent le Boulevard et laissent en piteux état / les Clôtures des Propriétés riveraines // Le Gallois, Agence de Location, Vierville" meaning 'when the wind favors strong tides, waves invade the Boulevard and leave it in a pitiful state'. Unused postcard, small thin in the back message area, paper browning evenly with age. Rare. $8.00 f(v)m
"ASCENSION du MONT-BLANC OBSERVATOIRE et REFUGE VALLOT" including the cabin built by Joseph Vallot near the mountain's summit for meteorological & scientific study at the end of the 19th century; unused Tuck Oilette postcard (SÉRIE 105 MONT-BLANC. No. 14), minor corner wear. The observatory shown later fell. $6.00 tmm
"Ben Nevis / ..." H. B. Wimbush art in vertical format, unused Tuck Oilette Postcard 7680, back lightly toned, tiny corner crease. Second line of caption is handwritten & hard to read. Back explains that the building atop the Inverness-shire mountain is a meteorological observatory constructed in 1883. $5.00 asmt
"Cyclone / KKG-8737" Ketchikan Alaska CB QSL card with Runnin' Bare style cartoon art depicting the winds & lightning that beset the state, club handstamp on back, fresh appearance. Operator was Michael R. Wirth. $2.00 aqm*
"Hail! Hail! // The hail hits here, the hail hits there, / The hail hits all around. / It cuts and tears, rips and bares, / And crops lay on the ground. / ... / C. ORVAL DAVIS / AGENT / WILDORADO, TEXAS" with a 2-stanza poem touting the crop insurance of Cravens, Dargan & Company, soliciting the business of W. N. Cutsinger a local farmer, stamp beyond the top edge (shown), a little extraneous writing on back. $4.00 itpm
KENTING AVIATION, LIMITED (Canada). Continental black & white photo of its Douglas DC04 (CF-KAD) parked with door open near a building, decal reads in part 'DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORT / METEOROLOGICAL BRANCH ICE RECONNAISSANCE", good focus, contrast is low & image is dark. Rare. $5.00 amc
"le Panorama de Menton / Suis arrivé, ____ 190__ / Distractions: variées / ... " fancy carte postale with an embossed thermometer, barometer & wallet beneath the color view, various blanks for the purchaser to fill in. Removed very carefully from a booklet, unused, whitish scraped area mars the scene. Judging by the even browning of the paper & the division of the back, it is from the time just after the undivided back era. The most elaborate such postcard we have ever seen. $6.00 fm*
"LUDWIGSHAUS IM RAUHREIF" showing the Karl Ludwig mountaineering house in hoarfrost (needle-like crystalline ice on ground formed by direct condensation), with its light green cachet on back; Postkarte mailed 1909. Still doing business, this accommodation is the highest of those in the Rax Austrian mountain range. $7.00 amm
""Main Street, Nurenburg(sic), Pa." including a sign for Golden Ice Cream, post card mailed there (Nuremberg spelling correct in cancel, of course) SEP 4 1958, handwritten note from their postmistress Timoria Warnick -- "Many of those beautiful trees were destroyed by hurricane Hazel ...". The tropical storm Hazel (to the residents it was a hurricane & it long remained so in their memories) hit the town in the fall of 1953, so the view is necessarily 1953 or earlier. A rare postcard as you might guess from the caption error, or possibly from the timing of bad weather after it was printed, or both! No other offers, recorded sales, or exhibits when we searched the Internet. Sold but front side still available for scholarly study & research as an enlarged 300-dpi scan (publication quality) in .jpg format for $3.75. p(n)mmp
"Rain effect, Aden 20.3.22" showing surface flooding near the Grand Hotel Royal; sepia-tone postcard from J. M. Coutinho, unused, rough edges as issued, very unusual subject matter. Sold but front side still available for scholarly study & research as an enlarged (about 771% of original print area) & enhanced 200-dpi scan in .jpg format. $2.00 am

"U. S. Weather Bureau DODGE CITY, Kansas." mentioning the Department of Agriculture on its sign, hand-colored postcard published by Fred Harvey, mailed NOV 4 1915, back paper browned a bit with age, a few tiny spots of light toning in the front sky. Not the common white-border version that everyone seems to have!
