Henderson Litho. Co. Col." sexist hold-to-light advertising card: when held to light
you see the woman's figure
in silhouette with exceptionally skinny hips & legs over the words (now
showing) 'A FINE FINISH BUT A POOR FRAME'. Slightly longer than a
continental postcard. Handstamped in violet on back: 'ED. BORDERWICH, / Sale
Agt. / 331 E. 8rd. St. DAYTON, O. / Telephone, 469'. Paper browning with
age, 3 horizontal creases so it could be folded into quarters. Rare: nothing
like it offered, or even displayed, when we searched the Internet. Sold but front
side still available for scholarly
study & research as an enlarged (about 771% of original print area) & enhanced
200-dpi scan in .jpg format. $2.00
"HOLD CARD TO LIGHT / Official Souvenir / POSTAL CARD / Machinery Building" from St. Louis Expo of 1904, mailed with light exposition cancel on 1-cent Livingston commemorative stamp, minor corner & edge wear, lightly toned back, cancel ink on front. Windows on building, the sun & some lights strung between poles light up. $35.00 (hem-e)
"HOLD CARD TO LIGHT / Official Souvenir / POSTAL CARD / Machinery Building" from St. Louis Expo of 1904, 1-cent Livingston commemorative stamp accompanied by "This is the mail for which you sent postage" auxiliary marking, minor corner & edge wear, lightly toned back, cancel ink on front. Windows on building, the sun & some lights strung between poles light up. The initial cancel where the stamp should have been is probably a Saint Louis duplex 1 handstamp-- probably, because the stamp is applied over some of it. The there is a NOV 15 1904 Saint Louis duplex 2 neatly which neatly ties the stamp. Then there is an Olathe Kans. NOV 16 receiving mark that just ties the stamp. In violet "This is the mail for / which you sent postage B" with all but 2 letters clear. Then in the lower left is a violet 2-ring circular "City Distribution Division // NOV / 13 / 1904 // St. Louis, Mo. (P.D.)" The name of the recipient is written twice in different inks--for which there are multiple possible explanations. $35.00 (he-u(p))
